While WWE has not added Brock Lesnar to the June 15th RAW advertisements, he’s scheduled to return on the show in Cleveland, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Additionally, Paul Heyman will be returning with him.
Why WWE Needs to Book Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton
As our calendars will soon turn to June we know that schools will close, swimming pools will open and the WWE will gear up for the build to its next big pay per view. Summer Slam is second only to Wrestlemania in terms of hype and usually features a pretty big main event of its own. One match in particular seems like a great idea and seems destined to happen if not at SS soon enough. Randy Orton vs Brock Lesnar the superstar matchup we’ve been waiting for since the early 2000’s when both stars signed developmental deals with the WWE.
Here we are in 2015 and we haven’t seen a true square off with these two they have stepped in the ring very early in their careers when Brock was the “Next Big Thing” and Orton was still trying to gain his footing well before the “Legend Killer” or his stints in Evolution and Legacy. Lesnar defeated Orton in a Smack Down squash match nothing to write home about nothing to get excited about. That was then and this is now, rumors started circulating last year about the dream matchup between arguably two of the most talented performers in WWE.
Intrigue is at an all time high, Lesnar is out at the moment and Orton is involved in a feud with Seth Rollins which is peaking at the right moment. Orton vs Lesnar at Summer Slam is now highly possible however creative decides to get us to the match is obviously totally on them but how we get to August is very important.
Booking in wrestling is as key as the wrestler himself if you book a storyline wrong fans will quickly lose interest. It’s imperative that if WWE decides to go ahead with this super match up that both Orton and Lesnar be consulted regarding build up. Randy is in high demand at the moment with good reason he provides great matches and like him or not he is one of the faces of the company. Lesnar is a super freak his size, speed and athletic ability are unmatched which is why Rollins pinned Reigns at Wrestlemania and not Lesnar otherwise it wouldn’t have been believable. Let’s be very clear nobody wants Lesnar to just pop back up on tv and challenge Orton it would make no sense at all. The last time we saw Lesnar the night after Mania, he went on a rampage destroying the announce table and handing out F5’s like candy when he was denied his rematch. We all know thats how you write someone off television quick and effective rather than dragging things out.
Adding Seth Rollins to the mix
Vince and the creative writers decision to have Seth Rollins cash in MITB during the main event was genius though we all knew it was coming. Seth Rollins is the biggest heel in the company and he is very key to Orton vs Lesnar for several reasons. Rollins has been feuding with Orton in some manner since he put him out with the now banned curb stomp. When Randy left to film “The Condemned 2” it was Rollins who rose among the ranks while Orton was away. It was Rollins who conned John Cena into bringing back The Authority and earning himself a spot in the Royal Rumble main event. Arguably it was Rollins who stole the show at the Royal Rumble even though he didn’t walk out with the WWE Title. Once the Philadelphia crowd let the boos bombard Roman Reigns after he tossed Rusev out the ring we knew trouble was brewing. Not even a rub from his cousin The Rock was able to stop the fans from booing and threatening to cancel their network subscriptions. The snow storm the next night was perfect to give the WWE a day off to figure things off even with the special broadcast from WWE headquarters. The Rollins plan was put into action then more than likely if not the night before. How to book it
Whenever Lesnar makes his return within the next few months he will of course invoke his rematch clause no matter who is holding the strap at the time. Don’t be surprised if Randy gets screwed over at Payback somehow. Dean Ambrose is a great competitor but not yet ready for the title, Reigns has been in the picture since winning the Rumble and more than likely will hang around. Of the 3 men facing Rollins in the Fatal 4 Way Orton is the only one ready to carry the title.
Keeping Orton in the title picture is the perfect way to build a feud with Lesnar when he returns. The best way to do this in my opinion a promo with Seth and Randy in the ring maybe with Triple H as well to keep them from trading blows. No Heyman announcement via social networks or the WWE app. Hit Brock’s music in the middle of Orton and Rollins going back and forth let Brock and Paul emerge from gorilla. Paul opens his mouth to speak and Brock takes the mic to let his fury out and demand his rematch. It works perfectly because you already have immense heat from Seth and Randy, Brock has heat with Seth as well. Randy interrupts Brock as he speaks and they build heat of their own. That’s how I would book it unfortunately I don’t work for WWE creative and I’m just fantasy booking, but this match is destined to happen. They are the last two true behemoths that haven’t faced off in a major match because honestly who even remembers that Smack Down squash match? Give us the real deal, Brock the beast that he is versus Randy the great ring technician that he is instant classic in my opinion.
