Wrestling fans knew it was only a matter
of time before BrockLesnar would
show up in a WWE ring
again. The "Beast Incarnate" returned to the company during Monday
Night Raw on June 15.
WWE
provided the news:
Lesnar was
last seen in WWE the night after he
lost the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31. After Rollins
denied him an opportunity to win back the belt, Lesnar snapped,
attacking the Raw announce crew and a poor cameraman:
Beating Lesnar would
also be the shot in the arm Sheamus needs because he has
done little of note since returning in March. Plus,Sheamus can
be a great worker when he's on top of his game. Watching him and Lesnar beat
the crap out of each other could prove to be a compelling match.
Whatever happens, it should be a lot of fun. Lesnar is one
of the best performers in the company, and each of his appearances carries an
added significance.
And
now that he's back, fans should cherish every second of his return. Before you
know it, he'll go back into hibernation until Royal Rumble/WrestleMania
season.
Having Stephanie McMahon indefinitely suspend Lesnar for
his actions was a smart way to write him off television. It explained why Lesnar couldn't
appear on a full-time basis, while simultaneously building him up as more of a
face for when he came back. Sooner or later, he'll get his revenge on Rollins
and The Authority.
In a way, the entire world title picture has been in a
bit of a holding pattern until Lesnar was
ready to re-enter the frame. Putting him in title contention is almost a near
certainty since there isn't another feud he could have right now that would
provide him with the same kind of main event-level prestige.
He
has already beaten John Cena and Triple H, he snapped The Undertaker's
WrestleMania streak, The Rock is probably shooting another movie, and CM Punk
isn't coming back to WWE anytime soon.
It makes little sense to put the belt on a guy like
Roman Reigns or Dean Ambrose if he's just going to drop it to Lesnar this
summer. A title reign like that would do more harm than good for an emerging
star's career.
Having Lesnar take
the World Heavyweight Championship from Rollins would wrap up that story arc
and allow a new challenger—most likely Reigns—to rise. Many fans would love to
see a rematch between Lesnar and
Reigns after their great clash at WrestleMania:
Sheamus is a major wild card in this whole situation,
though. The Money in the Bank briefcase holder can cash in at any time. Maybe
he capitalizes on a weakened Lesnar similarly
to how Rollins captured the World Heavyweight Championship.
